Blessed among Women
Lu:1:28: And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou
that art
highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among
women.
Lu:1:41, 42: And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the
salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth
was
filled with the Holy Ghost. And she spake out with a loud voice,
and
said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of
thy
womb.
The addressing of Mary by the angel and
the Holy Spirit inspired Elisabeth as ‘Blessed among women’ speaks volumes. We see in the Bible many prominent
women like Eve who is ‘mother of all mankind (Geneses 4), we have Sarah through whose children Abraham is blessed, and
lastly Mary who is proclaimed as ‘blessed among women’. Not just ‘a blessed woman’, but ‘blessed
among women’. Blessed than Eve the mother of all mankind and Sarah the mother of the Jews and the descendants of Abraham.
And this blessing because she bore in her the Son of God. This blessedness is one that shall be proclaimed throughout all
generations from that time onwards. A blessedness no other is spoken of in the
Bible.
